By Miriam Hooper
I think about you more than I care about you
With a stomach like a trampled chestnut.
You pull at me like a hangnail,
Skin ripped, blood-soaked, finely cut.
I think about you more than I care about you.
Your applause is gunfire,
Your laugh is a war cry.
My thoughts pander to you like a bird on a wire.
I think about you more than I care about you.
Handgun or hand grenade,
Which one could I choose?
You spoke with your hands, I wish you’d’ve prayed.
Man on my mind like he always is.
Man on my mind, this is how he wins.
My name is Miriam and I’m currently enrolled in the University of Toronto’s English
program. I started writing poems and songs in my free time in high school and have kept with it.
I think lyric writing is a great way to take my ideas and feelings and put them into different
formats that help me focus my thoughts concisely! I hope you enjoy my work.
